About

Physicalinterface is a peer-reviewed magazine about the messy middle between human-computer interaction, physical products, urban design, architecture, urban planning—and a great user experience. Not all of us have human factors engineering, usability, or product design backgrounds, but we do love considerately designed products and environments in all their forms.

physicalinterface is about:

  • The buttons and knobs on your toaster oven and that perfectly crisped bagel
  • The controls on your automobile that make your seat comfy
  • Why you love your Herman Miller Aeron
  • How signage and icons helped you get through a large foreign airport
  • Traffic and pedestrian signals
  • How a planned community works
  • How any of these designs may fall short of perfection given certain circumstances

We love to receive story submissions that provide insights into thoughtful design, critiques of current executions, and various interdisciplinary views of how designers can improve how we live.  If you’re not up for writing something we actively seek story ideas, contributions, and comments.  If you have an idea or would like to write an article for us, submit it here.

We look forward to seeing what you see.
